Civil War Union Officers' Campaign Hat With VI Army Corp Badge.

Officers' campaign hat of fine wool with a ½-inch band of woven silk tape along the edge of the brim. The crown is approximately 5 ½-inches tall with 3-inch brim. Black and gold bullion hat cord. 2 ¾-inch wide leather sweatband. Blue silk lining stamped in gilt with the maker's mark: "WARBURTON'S / ARMY HAT / PATENTED DEC 16 1862". A VI Army Corps badge, 1st Division red wool and gold wire is affixed to the right side of the crown. A small metal number "5" is mounted to the front of the hat.

Condition: This is a well-worn, "salty" hat with small to moderate size holes in the crown and brim. The silk edging of the brim is frayed and some of the stitching of the sweatband is tender. Great display piece, good condition.
