Serial no. 4807 [barrel, frame, triggerguard and butt], .44 caliber, 6-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Nickel-plated finish. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Etched cylinder scene. Case-hardened hammer and frame. Two-line, two-date patent to left side of frame. Brass triggerguard. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1861. The Colt Richards-Mason Conversion refers to a series of revolvers that were converted from percussion cap and ball firing mechanisms to use metallic cartridges in the late 19th century. Named after two Colt employees, Charles Richards and William Mason, this conversion was a response to the rising popularity of metallic cartridges, which offered more convenience and reliability than the older cap-and-ball system. These conversions were performed on existing Colt percussion revolvers, particularly the 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, and 1861 Navy models.

Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 15-20% nickel-plating, the balance a smooth grey patina with honest handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Action functions. Moderately pitted bore. Tom Mixon Collection
