Description

Texas Ranger Phil Ryan Cinco Peso Ranger Badge.

Constructed from a Mexican 1947 or 1948 issue five peso coin which has been hammered slightly convex and voided to create the Texas "Lone Star" central motif. The badge is engraved on the obverse PHIL RYAN / TEXAS RANGERS, the letters highlighted with black paint and enhanced with additional floral accents. The reverse still retains traces of the die struck 5 peso coin and features a hinged pin and barrel catch for mounting.

Phillip R. Ryan (born August 10, 1945) is a former Texas Ranger and three-term Sheriff of Wise County, Texas. He began his law enforcement career in 1966 as a Pasadena police officer before joining the Texas Department of Public Safety as a highway patrolman. Promoted to sergeant in 1976, he later became a Texas Ranger based in Decatur, covering multiple counties. Ryan gained national recognition for arresting serial killer Henry Lee Lucas and handling the notorious Ricky Lee and Sharon Green case in Wise County.
