Description
Colt Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter.Serial no. 108992, .38 caliber, 2 1/2-inch barrel with 2-line Hartford address. Blued and case-hardened finish. Left side of frame marked with 3-line, 3-date patent and Rampant Colt in broken circle. Mother-of-peal grips. Sold together with a Colt factory letter that confirms the current configuration except for the grips which appear to be period replacements. Letter also states an 1898 ship date to J.F. Schmelzer & Sons Arms Company, Kansas City, Missouri. Manufactured in 1898.
Condition: Excellent retaining approximately 80-90% original finish with edge wear at the muzzle. The barrel is just beginning to fade to a pleasing blue-brown patina. Some light flaking on the cylinder but scarcely any tracking line. Strong case colors remain on frame. Some thinning of the blue on the back of the hammer and on the backstrap. Scattered light handling wear throughout. Grips are fine with strong iridescence and a tiny chip at upper left corner of the left grip panel. A striking example.
