Description

Antique Colt SAA Frontier Six-Shooter Revolver.

Serial no. 135187, .44 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with single-line address reading COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. and roll-stamped legend reading COLT FRONTIER-SIX SHOOTER on left side of barrel. Originally blued and case-hardened finish. 3-date, 2-line patent [Rampant Colt stamp right of patent]. Aftermarket small crown silver shield soldered to front of frame. Hard rubber eagle grips with Rampant Colt as well. Manufactured in 1890. According to consignor notes; gun was shipped to Colt's San Francisco Office in 1890 [no letter provided]. Also worth noting from consignor notes, Graham, Kopec and Moore's book, page 56 state; this is a transition model, it has the old three-line patent date markings and the new encircled Rampant Colt trademark to the left of frame, making it one of only 300-500 examples that have these markings.

Condition: Good retains 10-15% bluing with balance turned gray. Some blue left in protected areas. Backstrap and frontstrap worn. Faint traces of case-hardening in protected areas as well. Grips excellent as configured, silver escutcheons shields on both sides of grip bottom. Three notches filed into bottom of the ejector present. Faint tracking line present. Action very tight. Bore good. From the Collection of Oran B. Jolley.
