Description
Sharps New Model 1859 Breechloading Percussion Rifle.Serial no. 42338 [upper tang], .52 caliber, 30-inch barrel with bayonet lug, fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of barrel marked: SHARPS RIFLE / MANUFG. CO. / HARTFORD CONN. and NEW MODEL 1859. R.S. Lawrence and C. Sharps patent dates to right side of receiver. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivels. Hinged metal patchbox to right side of stock. Crescent metal buttplate.
Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with signs of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Noticeable scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Few cracks to right side of stock. Wood loss to each side near action. Crisp action. Pitted bore.
