Description

Spanish Morion Helmet.

The steel helmet of traditional form, having a crested skull with upturned front and rear brim. Crude hammer marks and borders around the comb and visors. Roped pattern edging to brim and crest. Originally six steel rosettes along the base of the body on both sides [two present on one side, five on the other. Hammer marks on interior. Appears to be one-piece construction. Size: 11 1/2-inches tall from the base of the visor. About 15-inches from visor tip to visor tip, 2 1/4-inch tall comb. See, A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor Book by Stone, Figure 576 for similar examples. Date unknown, but in the 17th century style.

Condition: Good as configured, showing moderate age wear, patina and dents. Pitting and rust present underneath. Some pin / nail holes present. Some rosettes missing, see description.
