Description
J.H. Merrill First Model Percussion Carbine.Serial no. 272 [lock and upper tang], .54 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. Blued finish. J.H. MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858 marked on lock and top of action. Smooth walnut half-stock with brass barrel-band, triggerguard, hinged patchbox and buttplate.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Few cracks near wrist and buttplate. Action functions. Strong bore.
