Civil War Identification Disk and Ambrotype Belonging to Private Ewell Rose, M Company, Maryland 1st Potomac Home Brigade Cavalry.

Includes: 1) Rose's identification disk, Brass, 29mm in diameter. The obverse features a bust portrait of General McClellan with the caption "MAJOR GENERAL GEO. McCLELLAN / WAR OF 1861" and stamped at the bottom "To Miss C. A. E."; the reverse marked "EWELL ROSE / Co. M / 1st MD / FRONTROYAL VA". The disk retains the brass suspension chain. 2) Ninth-plate Ambrotype of Rose, in uniform, posed seated. Housed in an embossed leather case. Lid detached.

Ewell Rose enlisted as a private on April 15, 1864. Shortly after he mustered into M Company of the Maryland 1st Potomac Home Brigade Cavalry, "Cole's Cavalry". His records indicate that he deserted at Martinsburg, Virginia on June 22, 1864. The identification disk and image are accompanied by numerous photocopies of his service record, such as it was.

Condition: The identification disk has lost detail from wear but it remains in good condition. The image is clear and sharp and in very good condition.
