New York State Militia.

U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Revolver Issued to the New York State Militia.
Serial no. 132501, 7 1/2-inch barrel, 45 caliber. Blued finish with case-hardened frame and hammer. One piece walnut grips. New York State Militia markings, 2nd Brigade, Signal Corps Rack No. 48 on butt and right grip. R.A.C. inspector stamp on frame, cylinder and barrel. Also faint stamp R.A.C. on butt of wood grips. P and K stamps on different areas throughout the revolver. Note: This gun is mentioned by serial number and militia markings on page 129, 132 & 133 of the book titled Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers....a Continuing Study by Kopec and Fenn. In the book on page 129, the authors also claim, "...this is one of the Pre-1895 issued revolvers that were drawn from new arsenal supplies and were not re-issues". On page 133, the authors write, "SN# 132501 - 48 as being one of the four revolvers which were issued to the Second Brigade (NY) Signal Corps, Pre-1895 Militia Example". Manufactured in 1890.

Condition: Fine to excellent as configured. Retaining approximately 80-90% blued finish with thinning and losses to front and backstrap and 60-70% case-hardening. Grips with various nicks and bruising. Bottom of grip frame with some discoloration and possible touch ups. Action needs adjusting. Bore excellent.

UPDATE: Update on backstrap of butt plate: According to Kopec-Fenn Book and after speaking with John Kopec, when this gun was inspected by Kopec, it had the number 112237 on the butt strap along with the 2 / SC / 48. That is mentioned on page 132 of the book and confirmed by phone, apparently at some point after the inspection and now, the gun was re-stamped with the 132501 number there, that would explain the discoloration and some loss to the area and touch up that we originally mentioned on the condition. We still believe this is a great Cavalry Colt with New York State Militia History and After speaking to Kopec, we have come to the conclusion that the gun was altered at some point, only on the buttplate area as described, everything else is untouched and original. This gun has never gotten a letter written by Kopec (confirmed by Kopec today), buyer should definitely seek out a letter for authentication from him. He would be happy to assist!
