Description

Ames Model 1860 Naval Cutlass Dated 1862.

26-inch long bright blade marked "1862" on the obverse ricasso and "AMES MFG. CO. / CHICOPEE / MASS" on the reverse ricasso. Brass hilt with solid half-basket guard. Leather covered wooden handle, lacking wire wrap. Top of cross guard marked: "10M / 964". Black leather scabbard fastened with a long row of brass rivets on the reverse side. Brass frog stud.

Condition: Very good. A few small scattered dark spots on the blade; hilt with a dark patina and a few shallow dents; throat washer missing; scabbard moderately worn with a few deep creases near the tip. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
