Description

Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword.

Sword measuring 37-inches overall with a 31 1/8-inch blade, one inch at its widest. The blade, appears somewhat later, shows a plum-brown patina throughout. The pierced brass basket hilt features a distinctive cone-shaped pommel, its guard decorated with heart-shaped cutouts, four-leaf clover motifs, and simple line engravings of rather modest workmanship. The grip retains its leather wrap, though the wire binding is largely lost, with only slight traces remaining. The overall character of the piece suggests it may have been assembled or reworked during its period of use.

Condition: Blade with a plum-brown patina and scattered areas of dark pinprick pitting focusing on the bottom half. The brass hilt displays a uniform mellow patina with minor bends and blemishes. Pommel with light wear. Blade tip shows a small loss, the very point worn down.
