Description

Apollo 14 Crew-Signed "Type One" Insurance Cover. A philatelic cover with the "Apollo 8" 6ยข stamp (Scott #1371) affixed, bearing a pictorial machine cancellation from Kennedy Space Center dated January 31, 1971, the day that Apollo 14 was launched. The cachet is the mission insignia with three sets of wings beneath- two gold Navy (for Shepard and Mitchell), and one silver Air Force (for Roosa). Each astronaut has signed near his wings: "Al Shepard", "Stuart Roosa", and "Ed Mitchell". Insurance covers were typically signed by the entire crew before the flight and left behind for the families to sell should their loved ones not survive the mission. This is the first fully-signed Apollo 14 insurance cover Heritage has offered. Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
