Description

Group of Nine Japanese Yanone of the Yanagi-ba (Willow Leaf) Type.

Forged steel arrowheads of elongated spear type designed for battlefield use, valued for its aerodynamic efficiency and penetrating power. These examples demonstrate the refined forging typical of the period, with symmetrical proportions and a smooth, polished surface. Such arrowheads were mounted on lacquered bamboo shafts and employed in warfare as well as hunting. They represent the martial practicality of samurai archery, in contrast to the more decorative forms intended for ceremony or display. The nine examples in the group have tips ranging from 2-inches to 2 ¾-inches, and overall lengths from 7 ¼ to 9-inches.

Condition: All examples in very good or better condition.
