Description

Franklin Pierce: 1852 Political Cartoon. We're not sure if this 21" x 14" cartoon favors Franklin Pierce or simply pokes fun at the total lack of interest by voters in national issues of great import. It was published by J. Childs of New York and features a native-born American, freed black man, German and Irishman, all discussing the market for fish. The Irishman offers his solution to the vexing problem: "... Only put little Frank Pierce in the chair and he'll settle the question in a jiffy." The print is lightly toned, has some spots of mildew, a small corner stain and minor edge damage. Overall, it is quite nice.
