Jacqueline Kennedy: Autograph Memories Manuscript reflecting upon President Kennedy and their children. On yellow lined paper, 8" x 10.25", no place, no date. In her own hand, in black ballpoint pen ink, Jacqueline Kennedy reflects upon John F. Kennedy and his relationship with their children. The number "3" written in the upper left corner indicates that this page of reminiscences may have been a part of a longer manuscript. In full: "I used to think he [Joseph P. Kennedy] was like a tiger mother-swatting his cubs when they were out of line and drawing them in with his paw when they were troubled. And always that loyalty to family, which in the end is the only thing you have. A generation later, that sense of family in my husband was gentled. He did not have a child until he was 40, and he could have been forgiven if he had been slightly irascible to their noise at that age. But it was what he had been waiting for. How he loved his children. He needed to have them sensuously tumbling about him. Cabinet Members had to step over them in his office when it was the childrens time to be there. That is what I thank his father for. And for Jack's idea of marriage. Jack wanted Caroline to go to Catholic schools, because there she would learn that marriage is permanent."
