Description

Weaver & Chambers: 1880 Greenback Labor Jugate Ribbon. 2 1/4" x 5 1/2" green silk ribbon titled "Greenback Labor Nominees for President and Vice President 1880. Gen. J. B. Weaver. Col. B. J. Chambers." The Greenback Party ran national tickets in 1876 (Peter Cooper), 1880 (James Weaver) and 1884 (Benjamin Butler). The Weaver-Chambers ticket received the most popular votes by far of any of these efforts. Weaver ran again as the People's Party candidate in 1892 and made a very strong showing. Material from his 1880 run, other than ballots, is quite scarce. This example was removed from a scrapbook and has some glue discoloration on the back side. There are a couple of fabric pulls near the bottom. There are also some small worn spots where the vertical weave is missing, visibly primarily when the item is held up to the light. Placed flat in a Riker mount or frame, it displays perfectly well. We sold a stained example for $2,100 in a previous sale. We are aware of only four examples in the hobby, including this one.
