Publishers original decoratively blind-stamped cloth with titles printed in gilt on the front board. Trivial shelf wear. Small, old Raleigh, N.C. bookseller's stamp on the front pastedown and verso of the front-free endpaper. Trivial toning to pages, small closed tear on the rear endpaper, small dent on the leading edge of the rear board.

Confederate General Bryan Grimes served with distinction throughout the war, including at the first battle of Bull Run, Seven Pines, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg among many others. He was murdered after the war to prevent him from testifying in a criminal trial.
