Lithographed by Louis Haghe. Vol. I. London: F. G. Moon, 1842. Large folio (24.125 x 17.125 inches). Volume I only. Unpaginated. Portrait frontispiece. Forty-three tinted lithographed plates (twenty-two full-page, twenty-one half-page), including title vignette. Half bound in nineteenth-century maroon leather over marbled paper boards. Elaborate gilt spine, gilt rules, all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Leather and boards rubbed and scuffed with some surface loss to paper. Both hinges damaged; front hinge cracked at preliminary blanks. Some pages with water stains to lower margin; larger water stain to lower margin of approximately last ten leaves, with only one barely touching border of Plate 39 ("Jacob's Well"). Significant foxing throughout, affecting text and image areas of many plates. A few short tears to margins throughout, a few corners missing at front. Plate 21 ("Jerusalem from the North") with several gouges in image area. Good or better.
