First edition of a rare and important slavery narrative.

Small octavo. 400 pages. Contemporary full calf, black gilt morocco lettering label on spine, spine ruled in gilt. Binding worn, joints starting (yet still solid), front free-endpaper and (possibly) front blank lacking, text toned, foxed, with some soiling. Ink notations on rear pastedown. Still, a good copy of this important slavery narrative by Ball, which covers forty years of his life as a slave and his several escapes. This title was reprinted many times through the 1850's and beyond under various titles.
