Four Eloise First Editions, One Inscribed
Kay Thompson. Four Eloise First Editions, including: Eloise. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1955. First printing; review copy with promotional material laid in (review slip, reproductions of two Eloise illustrations on slick photo paper, and a photo portrait of Kay Thompson with bio blurb). Inscribed by Eloise illustrator Hilary Knight on front free endpaper, with "ME ELOISE!!!" underneath in red ink, in another hand, presumably Kay Thompson's. Quarto. 65 pages. Illustrated by Hilary Knight. Publisher's cream cloth with illustration of Eloise in black on front board and with lettering in red and black. Illustrated endpapers. Boards yellowing around edges; corners bumped. First signature loose; rear hinge starting. In lightly rubbed dust jacket. Very good. [and:] Eloise in Paris. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1957. First printing. Quarto. Unpaginated. Publisher's blue paper boards with black and silver stamping. Jacket chipped at spine ends; a few closed tears and some creasing along edges.
