Jacobs, / From / H. G. Wells / [flourish] / 1898 / [flourish]". Octavo. viii, 303, [1, blank] pages. With first state of publisher's sixteen-page catalogue inserted at rear. Original gray cloth lettered in black on front cover and spine. Publisher's logo stamped in black on back cover. Spine a bit browned, some rubbing to binding, hinges starting, some foxing in text, a few gutters cracked. Still, a good association copy of this cornerstone novel of any science fiction collection. W. W. Jacobs (1863-1943) was an English short story writer, who mainly wrote humorous stories, but he is known today for his horror story, The Monkey's Paw (1902). Hammond B5. Wells 14.
