Description

First London Edition of The Last of the Mohicans

[James Fenimore Cooper]. The Last of the Mohicans; a Narrative of 1757. London: John Miller, 1826. First English edition published about a month later than the Philadelphia edition of the same year. Three twelvemo volumes. xi, 287; [ii], 276; [ii],295 pages. Contemporary light blue paper over boards with tan paper spine backs. The boards on all volumes are detached but the textblocks are still tight; with the exception of some mild toning, the contents are clean; former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown of each volume. Lacking front free endpaper and half title to volume two. Altogether, an internally very good set worthy of professional restoration. Offered in a rather tatty modern clamshell case.
