First edition. Two octavo volumes. x, [4], 587; x, [2], 729 pages. Eight colored plates under tissue guards in each volume with many additional illustrations including photogravures, and illustrations from Nansen's own sketches. Engraved portrait of Nansen used as the frontispiece in Volume I. Four maps as called for, in pockets, Volume I. With an appendix by Otto Sverdrup, Captain of the Fram.

Original olive green cloth with beautiful decorative vignettes stamped in gilt and silver, with red and green accents on the front board of each volume. Titles stamped in gilt on the spines. Top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. A handsome set with trivial wear, in fine condition.
