With All Engraved Plates, Including the Rare Fold-Out Map of East Florida

Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia, East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, the Extensive Territories of the Muscogulges or Creek Confederacy, and the Country of the Chactaws. London: Reprinted for J. Johnson, 1792.First English edition. Octavo. xxiv, 520, [12, Index and Directions to the Binder] pages. With all called-for copper-engraved illustrations, including the frontispiece, one folding map of the coast of East Florida, one folding plate, and six full-page plates.
Modern full speckled calf with red leather spine label lettered in gilt. New endpapers. Minor wear at the extremities. Occasional light to medium foxing. Small finger nail-sized dark stain to the upper margin through page 8. Expert strengthening to the folds of the map, with tape stains from previously inexpert repair. Some corners creased. A few pencil markings in the margins. A nice copy in very good condition.
"The classic of southern natural history and exploration, with much on the southern Indian tribes. Bartram's account of the remote frontier, of the plantations, trading posts, and Indian villages at the end of the eighteenth century is unrivaled" (Streeter II, 1088).
