Seutter's Rare Map of Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Canada and a Famous Spoof of the "Mississippi Bubble"

adpellatione in Septemtrionali America descriptae quae hodie nomine
fluminis Mississippi vel St. Louis per colonias et navigationes
Gallorum ab immensas opes et adfluentiam magis magisque inclarescit
ex fide digniss. [Augsburg: G. M. Seutter, n.d., ca. 1740].
Hand-colored engraved map. Approximately 20.5 x 23.5 inches. Some
toning, creasing, and edgewear, paper tape reinforcement on verso
of central vertical crease. Still, very good. This map, being of
French origin, emphasizes France's claims and territories in North
America. The engraving on the lower right is a spoof of the famous
"Mississippi Bubble," where the collapse of a major French company
(Compagnie d'Occident), charged with developing and exploiting
French territories in North America, triggered a major financial
crisis throughout Europe.
