Description

Trio of Envelopes Addressed by Confederate General Edward Porter Alexander, Circa 1885 Along With Nine Other Covers Associated With His Wife. Includes three envelopes entirely in General Alexander's hand, addressed to his wife. Each bears the usual postmarks and is stamped with two cent Washington stamps. Additionally, there are nine other envelopes addressed to Mrs. Alexander by persons unknown. Each specimen is postmarked and stamped. All examples have slightly toned with age, but are in otherwise very good condition. General Alexander is probably best known for his exploits as chief of Longstreet's artillery at Gettysburg, specifically his cannonade prior to Pickett's famous charge on the third day of the battle.
