Description

John Jay Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 9.25" x 4.5", New York, September 20, 1795. Only weeks after resigning as the first chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court to become New York's governor, John Jay notifies "Mrs. Wentworth" that enclosed was "a copy of the Inventory" (not included in this lot). Jay also promises to send a colonel's "account . . . the moment he [Dr. Post] sends it to me." The letter is foxed with uneven margins and some tears.
