Description

Declaration of Independence Signer Elbridge Gerry Document Signed "E. Gerry." One page, 15" x 9.5", partially printed and completed in manuscript, April 3, 1812. The important early American statesman signs a military appointment for Joseph Merrill, Jr., appointing him a lieutenant in a company of the 4th Regiment of Infantry, Second Brigade, 2nd Division of the Militia of the Massachusetts Commonwealth. The document is countersigned by Gerry's Secretary of the Commonwealth, Benjamin Hormans. Toned with intersecting vertical and horizontal fold creases and a few splits in the folds, else very good.
