Description
[Civil War]. Autograph Letter Signed from Prisoner-of-War Major George McKnight, Confederate States Adjutant Generals Department, "Geo McKnight." 7.5" x 9.5", November 19, 1863, Military Prison, Johnson's Isle, four integral pages written on three. The letter, written in formal style, asks his female correspondent to find a Southern lady "who owns a superannuated but highly respectable old Guitar that she has cast aside . . . and beg her to send it to me." He ends, "tell her that I will learn a pretty little song upon it and play it in her praise just before going to sleep every night." A charming letter.Auction Info
