Description

Circa 1830 American Eaglehead Mounted Infantry Officer's Saber. 35" curved blade retains 90% of the original fire blue with some fading and much of the gilt on the engraved military/floral/scroll motifs. The balance is fine, with just some staining and a few scattered tiny nicks. Absolutely no rust or pitting. Brass hilt with reverse P-guard, disc quillon. Eaglehead with finely delineated feathers and backstrap. Langets with deep relief, tucked wing eagle with shield on stippled background. One-piece checkered ivory grip perfect with nice patina and 1/4" brass ferrule at the base. The hilt retains traces of the original silver wash. Leather scabbard with some crazing/flaking but very sound. The plain brass mounts retain some of the original silver wash and are about perfect. The throat configured to accept the langets. A very attractive American eagle saber in fine condition.
