Cased and Factory Engraved Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver, with Single Piece Checkered Ivory Grips, and Accessories. Serial no. 93756 (dot), .36 caliber, 7 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with single-line address marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. Blued finish with case-hardened frame, hammer and loading lever. Silver-plated finish on backstrap. Cylinder with naval engagement roll scene. Colt's Patent engraved within cartouche on left side of frame. Scroll and border engraved in the Gustave Young style with detailed floral motifs, punched dot or stippled background to scrolls. Finely checkered and embellished hammer spur. Wolf's head motif on each side of hammer. Rare one-piece checkered ivory grip. Contained in varnished mahogany case lined in maroon velvet. Accessories include; American eagle and Stand of Arms and Flags powder flask, blued steel bullet mold marked: Colt's Patent 36 "B", L shape screwdriver/nipple wrench, D.C. Sage Six Seamless Skin cartridges, Eley Bros cap tin and a few miscellaneous projectiles. Condition: Very good to excellent as partially refinished. Barrel retains approximately 95% reblued finish with fine spots of pitting throughout and are heavier near cylinder. Frame retains 75-80% recase-hardening with balance turning gray and soft, areas of pitting present primarily to recoil area. Hammer with areas of pitting, but retain most of case-hardening. Loading lever with 20-25% of soft recase-hardened finish, balance turning gray, numbered 3756. Cylinder, possibly refinished is lightly rolled but remains sharp. Backstrap and gripstrap retain most original silver plating with light flaking and handling wear. Grips are very good to excellent with great color, light handling, slight shrinkage. Wedge numbered 44969 (possibly contemporary). Action crisp. Case and accessories are very good. Case with nicks and wear, dividers are loose and slightly separated. Flask is in good condition with few dings and dents, bullet mold good with some losses to bluing, screwdriver with most of bluing removed, cartridges and cap tin in good condition, both appear unopened.
