Description

Henry Ford: Signed Edition of W. H. McGuffey's New Eclectic Reader For Young Learners. (New York, Cincinnati, Chicago: American Book Company, 1885), 84 pages, green pictorial paper boards shelf backed in black cloth, 16mo (4.25" x 6.5"), clear plastic dust sleeve, housed in a black custom quarter leather solander box with marbled boards and gilt titles & five raised bands on the spine. Boldly signed "Henry Ford" on the front free endpaper. Two vintage postcards of the Ford Motor Company laid-in. Ford cited the McGuffey's Eclectic Reader series as having a profound effect on him as a child. He collected and later reprinted the entire 1857 series of readers for a new generation, and distributed them to libraries across America at his own cost. The 1885 reader presented here is in very good condition, with bumped corners and mild edge wear. A rare chance to obtain a signed copy of the book series Henry Ford loved so dearly that he moved its author's birth home to his own museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
