Description

Dayton Friction Battleship Toy with two cannon turrets and a flywheel drive mechanism. This toy was probably made between 1895 and 1920 when the toy manufacturer was in business in Ohio. Accented by the red smoke stacks, the boat is painted white and green with some gold accents. Surely this toy replication was intended to help create, during play, the heroic efforts of the Battleship Maine. The boat does show signs of nicks and scratches to the paint and minor rusting does appear underneath. One life boat survives along side of the two masts and bird's nest lookout. This toy has an overall excellent vintage look and would appeal to collectors and decorators alike.
