Description

Abraham Lincoln: A Wonderful Form of his Autograph for Display. "Abraham Lincoln,", 4.75" x 8", clipped signature, np, nd. For those who cannot afford tens of thousands for a signed photo, this is an excellent substitute. A classic Buttre engraving of the iconic "Cooper Union" photo by Brady. A clipped signature, in the scarce and desirable full form, was neatly glued in place below his image decades ago. Indeed, from the "feel" of this item, the autograph may well have been affixed at the time of Lincoln's presidency, when autograph collecting was very much a national craze. Provenance: a pioneer New York autograph dealer Thomas F. Madigan, whose original label accompanies the piece. Very fine; light toning; very pleasing display appearance.
