Description
Project Mercury Astronauts Signed Color Photograph, 10" x 7.5", "M. Scott Carpenter," "John H. Glenn, Jr." (rare in full), "Alan B. Shepard, Jr.," and "Donald K. Slayton." Taken January 20, 1961, at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, the day of John F. Kennedy's presidential inauguration, the seven Mercury astronauts are standing beside a Convair 106-B aircraft in their flight suits. Each signed with his scarce, early signature. Upper portion with inscription name cut off leaving "From the Astronauts-" at the upper edge in an unknown hand. Slayton died in 1993, Shepard in 1998. From the collection of renowned former physical trainer of the astronauts Joe Garino. This lot is accompanied by a signed certificate of authentication from Garino verifying its provenance.Auction Info
