Jefferson, Thomas. Partly-printed document signed ("Th: Jefferson") as President Jefferson, Thomas. Partly-printed document signed ("Th: Jefferson") as President, 1 page (12 ¼ x 10 ¼ in.; 311 x 260 mm.), on vellum, "Washington," 16 February 1802, countersigned by Secretary of State James Madison. General fading of text and overall wrinkling; wafer seal missing from lower left. President Jefferson grants 327 acres of land appropriated for refugees from the British Provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia. The document states in part: "KNOW YE, That in pursuance of the act of Congress passed on the eighteenth day of February, 1801, entitled 'An Act regulating the grants of Land appropriated for the Refugees from the British Provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia,' there is granted unto Martha Walker a certain tract of land estimated to contain Three Hundred twenty seven acres & fifty six perches...surveyed and located in pursuance of the act above recited: To have and to hold the said described tract of land, with the appurtenances thereof unto the said Martha Walker and assigns forever, subject to the conditions, restrictions and provisions contained in the said recited act."Auction Info
