Description

Silver American Cross Belt Plate, Erie, Pennsylvania, 1842. 3" x 4¾" heavily silver plated brass. Die stamped in deep relief at the top with a finely detailed and charmingly primitive eagle on an olive branch. Deeply hand engraved "U. D. U./ Verein/ Erie, Pa./ 1842". Reverse with two slender hooks for attachment/ closure, most likely mounted on a sword belt sling. Perfect untouched condition and the only example noted. Very impressive.
