Terracotta Incantation Bowl
Middle East.
Ca. 5th century A.D.
6-1/4"D.
A small clay bowl inscribed with old Aramaic text or drawings, stacked at the corners of a building to ward off evil spirits or to dedicate the building. A 4" section of the rim has been visibly glued and a non-functional glue drip extends 2" from the rim.
