Description

[Arthur Rackham, illustrator]. Robert Browning. The Pied Piper of Hamelin. London: George G. Harrap & Co., [1934]. Quarto. Four color plates and numerous in text illustrations in black and white by Arthur Rackham. Bound by the acclaimed Portuguese book binder Frederico de Almeida (with his label on the verso of the front free endpaper) in full blue buckram with decorative gilt ruled boards, four raised spine bands with gilt titles and flower devices in compartments, top edge gilt, gilt inner dentelles, and marbled endpapers. Binding rubbed, lightly scuffed, and sun faded. Endpapers darkened around the borders from leather turn-ins, Lisbon based bookseller's label on front pastedown, foxing (heavier towards front and back of book), occasional soiling, and a hole punch sized paper lift in the outer margin of color plate "From street to street he piped advancing". Very good.
