Description

Apollo 10 Crew-Signed Launch Day Cover Featuring the Mission Insignia. A philatelic cover commemorating the Apollo 10 mission, nicely signed by all three crewmembers: "Tom Stafford", "John Young", and "Gene Cernan" in various felt tips. The cachet features a large color image of the official Apollo 10 mission insignia and bears a strong May 18, 1969, Kennedy Space Center pictorial machine cancelation not quite touching a 6¢ "Apollo 8" commemorative stamp. Unaddressed. Excellent.

Apollo 10 was a full dress rehearsal for the first Moon landing, testing every component and maneuver of a lunar mission except the actual landing. The mission featured the complete Apollo spacecraft, Command/Service Module Charlie Brown and Lunar Module Snoopy, and brought the Lunar Module to within 8.4 nautical miles of the Moon's surface. This critical mission validated lunar orbit operations, navigation, and docking procedures, paving the way for the success of Apollo 11 just two months later. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
