Description

Apollo 9: Crew-Signed Launch Cover. A philatelic cover featuring a colorful and informative SpaceCraft by Swanson cachet, bearing a 6¢ "Flag" stamp machine canceled at Cape Canaveral on March 3, 1969. Signed in various inks: "James A McDivitt", "Dave Scott", and "Rusty Schweickart". Tiny address. Excellent. Included, for purposes of display or matting, is a glossy color print of the crew in white spacesuits, pre-flight.

Apollo 9 was a pivotal mission that tested the Lunar Module in Earth orbit for the first time, proving its critical systems and maneuverability needed for a successful moon landing. This mission validated the docking and rendezvous techniques essential for the lunar surface expedition, directly enabling Apollo 11's historic moonwalk. Apollo 9's success marked the final major milestone before NASA committed to the lunar landing, demonstrating both crew safety and mission feasibility. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
