Description
[Woman's Suffrage] Congressional Union Herald Pin. This 1" purple, white, and gold pin for the Congressional Union was issued sometime between 1913, when the militant Alice Paul withdrew from NAWSA, and 1917, when her group evolved into the National Woman's Party. The Herald, a traditional icon on suffrage buttons, evolved from the 18th and 19th century tradition of using the image of a goddess or archetypal woman to represent allegorical virtues. In excellent condition, this is one of the most attractive and scarcest of the known suffrage buttons.Auction Info
