Description

[Queen Elizabeth I]. Two Documents from Her Reign. The first, one page of a bifolium (in English), 8 x 11 7/8 inches, Norfolk; 1592. The second, one page on vellum (in Latin), 12 x 4 1/2 inches, Dorset; [circa 1590s].

Elizabeth I, who reigned from 1558 until her death in 1603, was the last of the Tudor monarchs, having never married or had children. She named as her successor, the son of her cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots, whom she had executed in February 1587, after discovering a plot Mary had hatched against her. James VI of Scotland was crowned James I of England following her death.

Paper document with date sticker affixed to top left corner; previous dealer's paper label affixed to inside pages of bifolium; small hole punched at bottom right corner; docketing and pencil annotation on verso.
