Description
Reporting on the French and Indian War Featured in The London Chronicle. London: J. Wilkie, January 24 to January 26, 1760. Vol. VII, No. 481. Eight pages, 8 1/8 x 10 7/8 inches. Paginated and printed in three columns. This issue features a front-page, column-one report on the French and Indian War, detailing the state of the conflict following the surrender of Quebec in September 1759. In part:"Captain Church arrived here [in Boston] from Louisbourg, informs us, that the evening before he sailed Capt. Campbell, in a sloop fitted out at Louisbourg by the Government, mounting eight carriage guns, having on board a detachment of 90 troops, under Capt. Schomberg, to go in quest of the enemy who took so many of our trading and fishing vessels last summer, returned to Louisbourg, and brought with them seven of the chiefs, or heads of the tribes of Indians, and about 12 Frenchmen...The late French Governour Vaudreuil, being in haste in his flight from Quebec, had not time to carry of his equipage, but left that and his chariot behind. General Amherst is arrived here by land from Albany, having walked the greatest part of the way."
Condition: Lightly toned with a few light stains. Pencil annotations at top of front page. Remnants of previous binding at left edge. Front page starting to separate at hinge.
