Description
Very Nice Civil War Regulation US M1850 Foot Officer's Sword. 32½" blade decorated on the obverse with etched central panel of spread wing eagle with rays, clouds, and motto and on the reverse with large US flanked by scrollwork. Small brass "Proved" disc in etched panel on the obverse ricasso and F. Horster in a similar panel on the reverse. Blade retains much of the original luster with just some scattered staining. Absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Regulation brass hilt with nice untouched patina and traces of gilt. The sharkskin grip perfect with coiled copper wire. Retains the original red wool washer. Brass mounted leather scabbard in excellent sound condition. There is an old repair to what appears to be a partial break about 6" above the bottom mount, minor. Brass mounts about perfect. A fine early war example of this basic Civil War company grade officer's sword and scabbard.Auction Info
