July 29 [unknown year] handwritten letter from Eleanor Roosevelt on Mrs. F. D. Roosevelt/ Eastport/ Maine stationery to Mrs. Maude Gray of Portland Maine, with original transmittal envelope also in ER's own hand, concerning her visit and describing family activities. Signed by Mrs. Roosevelt "Love/ E.R.," this handwritten letter has very interesting and personal content. Mrs. Gray was ER's aunt and the wife of David Gray, the United States Ambassador to Ireland. The letter features ER's handwriting on both sides of one page, continuing onto a second page of stationery. ER writes, in part: "Maude dearest, You were darling to take us all in and now I await your arrival with impatience. Capt. Calder suggested today that you could get a train to East Machias. Is there one?...I will have to go to lunch with Morgenthau's in Bar Harbor...Much love./ E.R." A terrific and personal handwritten letter from ER to her maternal aunt.
