Description

Army Chaplain Captured at Bull Run: Pair of Cartes de Visite. Both depict Hiram Eddy of the 2nd Connecticut Volunteers. The first, with back mark of T. M. V. Doughty of Winsted, Connecticut, shows him seated, without a beard and is identified on the back: "Rev. Dr. Eddy - War Chaplain". The second shows him seated in uniform, wearing a beard. It is inscribed on verso: "Rev. Dr. Eddy after being in prison." Eddy stayed behind at 1st Bull Run to tend to Union casualties and was taken prisoner.
