Description
Great 6.125" x 8" Oval Albumen Portrait of a Young Federal Civil War "Powder Monkey." Blue wool uniform consisting of naval style trousers, blue wool jacket over a jumper with a neckerchief. Navy flat hat with no visible hatband. Posed next to a stand with heavy tasseled cord wrapped around a heavy damask cover. Fine quality and condition, just some even fading, minor staining on the bottom of the mount, not affecting image. Backmark of Mallett, 134 & 146 Bowery. Nice Civil War navy image, the subject remarkable for his youthful but determined appearance.Auction Info
