Description

Apollo 11 U.S.S. Hornet Original Recovery Hat Originally from the Estate Collection of NASA Flight Director Brock "Randy" Stone, with Rare "Hornet Plus Three" Button Attached. A blue wool bill cap, size 7 1/8, by Harvard Sports Headwear (by Pittsburgh Hat & Cap Co. tag) with a gold on blue embroidered "U.S.S. Hornet Apollo 11" patch on the crown. This was worn on the Hornet July 24, 1969, when the Apollo 11 crew was picked up after their landmark mission and transported to the quarantine facility awaiting them on the ship. Brock Stone worked at NASA from 1967, starting on the Landing and Recovery Team (where he worked on the Apollo 11 an Apollo 12 recovery teams) and worked his way up to JSC Deputy Director at his retirement in 2004. An absolutely incredible rarity. Even the attached button is scarce and collectible. Includes a letter from Ira Goldberg verifying its authenticity. A few tiny moth holes in the back, only noticeable when held to the light, otherwise fine.
